SUMMERS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a tornado warning for parts of southwestern Greenbrier County and northeastern Summers County in southeastern West Virginia.

The warning remains in effect until 5:00 PM EDT.

At 4:28 PM, meteorologists detected a severe thunderstorm near Elton, capable of producing a tornado. The storm is moving northeast at 15 mph.

The tornado warning poses a significant hazard, with radar indicating possible rotation.

Residents in the affected areas could face dangerous flying debris, with damage likely to mobile homes, roofs, windows, and vehicles. Tree damage is also expected.

Communities potentially impacted include Sandstone, Lawn, Elton, and Hix.

The National Weather Service urges those in the area to take immediate cover, moving to a basement or an interior room in a sturdy building.

People outdoors, in mobile homes, or vehicles should seek substantial shelter and protect themselves from flying debris.
