    Man makes threat at Summers County Tax Office

    HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Hinton man was arrested after he asked staff if he would still have to pay taxes if he killed everyone in the tax office.

    On September 26, 2024, at approximately 1:37 p.m., the Summers County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a verbal threat made at the department’s tax office.

    According to a victim, a customer identified as Johnathan Pilkington made a disturbing comment while interacting with staff. During a conversation with an employee, Pilkington allegedly asked if he would still have to pay taxes if he “killed everyone in the tax office.” The remark was reportedly overheard by three other customers present at the time.

    The Summers County Sheriff’s Department, whose primary government function is tax collection, has launched an investigation into the incident. The threat was made at the department’s tax office, located in Hinton, Summers County , West Virginia.

    No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing. Pilkington was charged with making terroristic threats.
