OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS)—A traffic stop in Oak Hill led to a man’s arrest on drug charges .

On October 6, 2024, Trooper First Class T.D. Richardson, while conducting a patrol along US Route 19 in Oak Hill , observed a blue Volvo SUV with expired registration and inspection stickers. The vehicle, displaying a 2024 registration sticker and an expired motor vehicle inspection sticker from 2021, was initially spotted near the 612 interchange.

Upon pulling the vehicle over near Legends Highway at the Green Town Road Exit, Trooper Richardson noticed a male subject, later identified as Jeremy Haggerty, attempting to walk away from the vehicle. Haggerty was ordered to return to the vehicle. When asked for a driver’s license and proof of insurance, Haggerty informed the officer that it was not his vehicle and that he did not possess a valid driver’s license.

During the interaction, Haggerty appeared to be concealing items in his pockets, prompting Trooper Richardson to conduct a “Terry Frisk” for safety purposes. Haggerty denied having anything illegal, but several bladed weapons were discovered on him. While the officer was contacting WVSP Beckley Communications, he observed Haggerty bending down and placing an unknown item near the passenger side wheel of the patrol vehicle.

Upon investigation, Trooper Richardson retrieved an aluminum foil wrapping containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Haggerty was immediately placed under arrest and taken into custody.

The vehicle was impounded due to the expired registration and lack of a valid driver. Haggerty was transported to the WVSP Oak Hill Detachment for processing before being taken to the Southern Regional Jail, where he awaits arraignment.

The methamphetamine evidence was secured in the WVSP Oak Hill Detachment evidence lockers.
