BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Commission will meet next week for its Regular Session meeting at which commission members will take into consideration the lifting of a Burn Ban currently in effect.

The ban followed substantial drought conditions which impacted areas throughout West Virginia during the summer months. The impact was such that Governor Jim Justice issued a State of Emergency for all counties in the state, and would extend the declaration in late-August

Developments in the situation following the impact of recent storms in the wake of Hurricane Helene have altered the circumstances which led to the issuing of the initial State of Emergency, leading to State of Emergency declarations for several West Virginia counties impacted by flooding.

In addition to consideration of lifting the aforementioned Burn Ban, the upcoming meeting of the commission looks to include consideration of an extension for a conditional use permit for Raleigh Solar, the approval of multiple Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office employees, and more.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at 10:00am on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. The full agenda for the upcoming Regular Session meeting as released by the Raleigh County Commission can be seen below.
