Man pleads guilty to conspiracy to deliver controlled substance in Wyoming County

WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Daniel James Dotson, 31, of Delbarton, West Virginia, pleaded guilty on September 25, 2024, to Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance.

The plea stems from an April 7, 2024, incident when deputies from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department stopped Dotson’s vehicle after observing an altered and expired registration plate.

Deputy Zacharia Cook initiated the traffic stop, during which Dotson briefly attempted to flee before pulling over.

A subsequent investigation revealed that Dotson was in possession of crack cocaine, which he admitted to officers.

Additionally, Dotson had a significant amount of cash on him, and further controlled substances were discovered during the investigation.

Wyoming County Prosecutor Gregory Bishop praised the work of law enforcement in this case.

“This is a good example of proactive policing and thorough investigations,” Bishop stated. “Illegal controlled substances are a plague on our community, and we will continue to fully pursue prosecutable cases.”

Derek Laxton, Wyoming County Assistant Prosecutor, led the case, while Deputies Zach Cook and Matt Perry conducted the investigation.

Dotson is scheduled for sentencing on November 14, 2024. The charge of Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance carries a penalty of 2 to 10 years in prison.
