LEWIS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – At approximately 6 pm, on October 12, 2024, the undersigned officer received a call from Lewis County 911 about an altercation in progress on US 19 near 408 US 19 in Weston, West Virginia. The officer was informed that a male subject, later identified as the defendant Anthony Herget, was standing in the middle of the road.

As Mr. Christopher Vankirk, the victim, slowed to safely pass the defendant, the defendant reached out and broke Vankirk’s side view mirror. Vankirk stopped his vehicle and exited, at which point the defendant charged him. The defendant then began striking Vankirk and the vehicle multiple times.

The officer spoke with the defendant, who stated “I don’t know, go ask him” when asked about the incident. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol on the defendant’s person.

Damage to Vankirk’s vehicle is estimated at $500. The undersigned officer is charging the defendant with public intoxication, battery, assault, and destruction of property.
