Raleigh County Commission approves lifting of Burn Ban

BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Commission during its Regular Session meeting on Tuesday approved the lifting of a Burn Ban originally issued last month.

Initially issued to address immense heat conditions impacting areas around the state, the Burn Ban lost pertinence in the wake of multiple storms which followed Hurricane Helene. The State of Emergency, issued by Governor Jim Justice in August to address potentially dangerous heat conditions across the state, recently gave way to a State of Emergency declaration pertaining to flooding and destruction brought about by storms.

The Burn Ban was addressed as an agenda item at Tuesday’s Regular Session meeting of the Raleigh County Commission, and according to Raleigh County Administrator, Jay Quesenberry, President of the Raleigh County Fire Chiefs Association and Beaver Volunteer Fire Department Chief, Jason Redden voiced his support for the lifting of the ban due to improvements in the aforementioned drought conditions.

Raleigh County Fire Levy Coordinator, Jason Whiting also voiced his support for the lifting of the ban, according to Quesenberry.

A motion for approval of the lifting of the Burn Ban was seconded during the meeting, leading to the approval of the ban’s lifting by members of the Raleigh County Commission.
