LANSING, WV (LOOTPRESS) – As of October 17, 2024, more fall colors are beginning to appear in the New River Gorge.

According to a Facebook post from New River Gorge National Park & Preserve, while the area’s peak fall color typically occurs during the latter half of October, many of the larger trees like oaks and beech remain green.

However, several species, including maples, birch, and the red-leafed sourwood, are either at or nearing their peak color.

Though the gorge may still appear largely green from overlooks such as those at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center and Grandview, a walk through the forest offers a more vibrant display of autumn colors.

Bridge Day will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
