Huntington man pleads guilty to firearm possession

HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Alonzo Dewayne Harden, 30, of Huntington, pleaded guilty today to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The charge stems from a traffic stop on May 17, 2024, when law enforcement stopped a vehicle in which Harden was a passenger.

According to court documents, Harden fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after.

During the pursuit, Harden discarded a loaded Glock Model 22 .40-caliber pistol with an extended magazine, which officers recovered.

Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Harden had prior felony convictions, including malicious assault and use or presentment of a firearm during the commission of a felony in Cabell County Circuit Court in August 2021.

Harden is scheduled for sentencing on January 27, 2025. He faces up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.

The case was investigated by the Huntington Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

U.S. District Judge Robert C. Chambers presided over the hearing, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Courtney L. Finney is prosecuting the case.
