Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Rampart Division responded to a call of an “assault with a deadly weapon suspect armed with a knife” around 1:42 a.m. Monday at an apartment building in the 500 block of South Bonnie Brae Street in Westlake, according to the LAPD.

When officers arrived on scene, they made contact with a female victim with cuts from a stabbing who informed officers the suspect was still inside their apartment.

The suspect had locked himself inside the apartment with young children, according to LAPD Officer Cuellar.

Officers breached the apartment and located the suspect down with multiple stab wounds. A knife was recovered at the scene.

The adult male suspect was arrested for an “assault with a deadly weapon” and transported to a local hospital with self-inflicted stab wounds.

The female victim, identified as the suspect’s “live-in girlfriend” by the LAPD, was also transported to a local hospital for knife wounds. Her condition is unknown.

A third victim, possibly a child, was also transported but details regarding that victim are currently unknown.

Cuellar told Key News Network that the young children were with grandparents at this time.
