    Wildfires Get Wild

    Wildfires near Los Angeles have burned almost 20,000 acres and are not under control. Over 1,000 people have been evacuated from the area. According to The New York Times, Daniel Swain, a climate scientist from the University of California, Los Angeles, said, “This is a taste of what’s to come.”

    There have been over 50,000 wildfires in the US each year since 1983, when the National Interagency Wildfire Center started to keep figures. Over 10 million acres were burned in 2020, 2017, and 2015. Since the catalysts for many fires differ, as do the levels of drought and wind, it is impossible to know what the year 2024 will look like.     Climatecrisis247 believes that the wildfire season in the West could set new records this year, and climate conditions like drought and high winds make them more likely. Just as important, the threat of these fires has spread to other parts of the US, which include Texas. In March, the Posthouse Creek Fire burned about one million acres.
