Wildfires Get Wild

Wildfires near Los Angeles have burned almost 20,000 acres and are not under control. Over 1,000 people have been evacuated from the area. According to The New York Times, Daniel Swain, a climate scientist from the University of California, Los Angeles, said, “This is a taste of what’s to come.”

There have been over 50,000 wildfires in the US each year since 1983, when the National Interagency Wildfire Center started to keep figures. Over 10 million acres were burned in 2020, 2017, and 2015.
