Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick.

JJ Redick was known for bombing away from three-point range during his NBA career. He dropped different bombs during his first news conference as Los Angeles Lakers head coach.

Michael Kay complained about "the coarsening of our society" after a profanity-laden answer from Redick to a relatively innocuous question: "What misconceptions about you are you most looking forward to dispelling?"

To paraphrase, he said he really didn't give a "hoot" about that, and said winning games was all he "freaking" cared about. Fill in your own four-letter words.

It may not represent a societal change, but Jaylen Brown also cursed up a storm while accepting the Finals MVP trophy, though that's certainly a more emotional moment than an introductory question-and-answer period.

    Former coach George Karl disapproved.

Perhaps Redick was used to the uncensored style of one of his podcasts, but he worked on play-by-play. His profanity was a calculated choice, perhaps in order to look tougher and more serious than, well, a podcaster.

It's an odd choice given the Lakers' most important player's favorite expletive tends to be "Sheesh!"

When LeBron James gets really worked up, he'll even add a "My goodness!"

Cursing at a press conference is not a huge deal, but it's boorish. It's just disrespectful to his audience in the media, a media that Redick was part of one week ago.

He's pretending to be so worked up about criticism that he can't stop himself from dropping f-bombs, while actively delivering the criticism he purportedly doesn't give a fig about.

But there may be a strategy behind Redick kicking off working for the Forum Blue and Gold Lakers by working blue. After his first press conference, the media wasn't talking about his inexperience, or business relationship with James. They were talking about the f-word.
