On the heels of a report that Shohei Ohtani is interested in participating in the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby, he opened up Wednesday's game against the Chicago White Sox with...another home run:

The leadoff shot was his 25th of the year and second consecutive game with a homer. It was also his fifth in his last six games, running his total up to 11 big flies for the month. To say nothing of it being his sixth since being moved to the leadoff spot in Mookie Betts' absence.

While it likely won't change the team's mind in potentially preventing him from participating in the derby, it's yet another reminder that the event would feel incomplete without Shohei in the way that he's going right now.

In leading off the game with another power display, Ohtani also made a bit of Dodger history. Wednesday marked his 10th consecutive game with an RBI, breaking the previous record of nine set by Roy Campanella in 1955.

Roy Campanella. 1955. That's a wild achievement within the context of the team's storied history. Add in five homers in six games, and Shohei Ohtani is at his most electric for the Los Angeles Dodgers right now.
