Investigations have been ongoing since Matthew Perry’s death last October, which rocked the Hollywood entertainment industry and his fans around the globe. The actor reportedly died from acute effects of ketamine, coupled with other factors like drowning, side effects of buprenorphine, and underlying health issues.

Although the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner closed the investigation last year, the case was reopened by the police department in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. postal inspectors to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

Who is being charged for Matthew Perry’s death?

Updates so far reveal that “multiple people” may be held responsible for Perry’s death, but there have been no further details about those in question. It was confirmed that the actor underwent ketamine infusion therapy nearly two weeks before his untimely passing; however, the levels of the drug found in his system indicated otherwise.

It is unknown how Perry got access to ketamine outside of medical requirements since the dissociative anesthetic has a lifespan of only 3-4 hours, hence the many questions arising from the Los Angeles police department. Perry’s battle with opioid dependency was not unknown, with much detail in his 2022 memoir titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.

Perry’s battle with addiction and depression

Perry’s ordeal with drugs began in the late ‘90s after a jet ski accident, which led to regular doses of Vicodin for pain relief. He soon became addicted to the feeling and, by the early 2000s, began to lose weight and developed health issues like pancreatitis and depression. In addition to his already existing problems, Perry was an alcoholic and struggled to control himself.

The talented actor was playing Chandler Bing on Friends at the time, where he met co-stars Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Jennifer Aniston, who became close-knit friends outside of work. The clique remained supportive of Perry through his struggles and implied rehabilitation years later, hence their shock when the news of his death broke.
