Montreal emo band Gulfer are calling it quits after their final shows in Toronto on Friday (7/19) and Ottawa on Saturday (7/20), and they’ve given us one last release before they go, a five-song EP called Lights Out (out via Topshelf). It covers a lot of ground in its 16-minute, 41-second runtime, with everything from revival-era emo to shoegaze to indietronica, and it finds the band going out with a bang. The band says:

The AV Club has a new editor-in-chief, Danette Chavez, and they’re relaunched their A.V. Undercover series after seven years of dormancy. They took Consequence‘s suggestion to start things off with a rendition of “I’m Just Ken” from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie, and GWAR were up for the challenge. Instead of a faithful cover, they rewrote the lyrics to make them their own (and Blothar the Berserker admitted to having a “prurient interest in Ryan Gosling”). Houston metal festival Hell’s Heroes will return in 2025 for its seventh year from March 20-22 at the White Oak Music Hall lawn, and the initial lineup has just been announced. It features (Max and Iggor) Cavalera performing the 1987 Sepultura album Schizophrenia that they released a re-recorded version of this year, Florida progressive/power metal vets Crimson Glory, Swiss thrash vets Coroner, Texas’ own reunited vets S.A. Slayer (who were initially called Slayer until they changed their name due to a certain other band called Slayer), Bay Area thrash vets Sadus, UK thrash vets Onslaught (performing their 1985 debut album Power From Hell), Philly doom revivalists Crypt Sermon, Australian trad-heavy metal revivalists Sabïre, and more.

Upon entry, detectives found Alyn Franklyn, identified as a black male, in the master bedroom. During the search, one detective discovered a small brown plastic bag/wrapper containing suspected crack cocaine on top of the microwave in the kitchen.
