Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto is progressing well from his right rotator cuff injury. According to manager Dave Roberts’ latest update, however, Yamamoto isn’t back to 100 percent just yet:

Roberts said right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto is recovering well but has not started a throwing program yet. Yamamoto is on the IL with a strained rotator cuff.

The 25-year-old was diagnosed with a right rotator cuff strain almost two weeks ago. Yamamoto last appeared for the Dodgers June 15 against the Kansas City Royals, a game in which he only pitched two innings. Initially, his injury was listed as tricep tightness, but an MRI revealed the injury to his rotator cuff. Yamamoto was placed on the 15-day IL, and the timeline for his return is unknown.

While the Dodgers are riddled with injuries — and it’s never a great sign to lose an ace — Yamamoto’s injury is not season-ending. It’s still possible he will have time to ramp up his play in time for the postseason. Winning in October matters most, and it will be on Yamamoto and the others who can get the job done when that time comes.

Before the injury, the Japanese sensation was just finding his groove. He recorded a 6-2 record with a 2.92 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and an 84-to-17 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 74 innings and 14 starts.
