Potential Dodgers Trade Deadline Target Draws Praise from Veteran LA Infielder

White Sox’s left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet struck out six batters and held the Dodgers scoreless for 5.2 innings Monday. Although Chicago lost 3-0, Crochet controlled the Dodgers while he was on the mound.

Keep that in mind as the July 30 trade deadline approaches.

The White Sox are 21-61 and in full-on rebuilding mode. Several contending teams such as the Padres, Mariners, and Dodgers have shown interest in multiple Chicago players, including Crochet. White Sox GM Chris Getz has every incentive to get the most he can before the deadline in return for his best players.

This season, Crochet is 6-6 with a 3.05 ERA, 130 strikeouts, and 20 walks in 94.1 innings. He leads all MLB pitchers in strikeouts per nine innings; Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow who ranks second. With the trade, the Dodgers could have the top two strikeout pitchers in the Major Leagues on their postseason roster. Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain further explored the details of the Dodgers potentially trading for Crochet:

After Crochet was relieved, Dodgers infielder Kiké Hernandez hit an RBI double to put Los Angeles on the board. Hernandez had positive words about his potential new teammate, following Crochet’s scoreless start.

“He’s really good. He’s got a good mix. He was mainly a two-pitch pitcher throughout the night, mixed in some changeups. But he’s really good. Throws really fast.”

Crochet uses his four-seam fastball the most (54.9%), averaging 96.8 mph and opponents hit .142 off of it. The left-hander’s next most-used pitch is his cutter (24.8%); opponents are hitting .216 off it. Occasionally he throws in a slider (13.5%) and changeup (6.7%).
