LeBron James seemingly plans on returning to the Los Angeles Lakers next season, assuming the front office brings in additional talent.

James' agent and CEO of Klutch Sports, Rich Paul, recently told ESPN that "LeBron James has officially opted out with L.A. and will work with LAL on his next deal if it means adding an impact player: 'He is prioritizing a roster improvement. He's been adamant about exuding all efforts to improve the roster.'"

The superstar forward is looking to bring home championship No. 5, whether it's with the Lakers or elsewhere. It didn't take general manager Rob Pelinka long to consider Paul's message, as LA is reportedly showing interest in Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Klay Thompson.

"The Los Angeles Lakers, LA Clippers and Dallas Mavericks are expected to be among strong suitors for Thompson, according to league sources," The Athletic's Shams Charania and Anthony Slater wrote. "Multiple teams with salary cap space are expected to show interest in Thompson as well."

While Thompson remains a solid starter in the NBA, averaging 17.9 points last season, he does not move the needle for the Lakers. Instead, a player the caliber of Paul George or Donovan Mitchell (unlikely acquisitions) could push them into conversations with championship favorites.
