Dodgers use massive extra inning rally to grab win over Giants

That the Los Angeles Dodgers were even a position to win Saturday's game in San Francisco says a lot.

For one, Tyler Glasnow departed after allowing five runs in just three innings of work. For another, Daniel Hudson had to work his way out of a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the bottom of the 10th with the game already tied. In forcing the game to 11, though, the Dodgers left no doubt in the final result.

After scratching across one in the 10th, the Dodgers hung another seven on Giants reliever Sean Hjelle. It was an inning that started with an intentional walk of Shohei Ohtani. From there, it was an onslaught.

Facing an 0-2 count, Will Smith doubled in both Ohtani & ghost runner Enrique Hernández to give LA a 9-7 edge. Freddie Freeman added a double of his own to give the team a three-run cushion. Following a Teoscar Hernández single, Chris Taylor knocked in Freeman. Jason Heyward then scored both Hernández & Taylor on a triple before being sent home on a Miguel Rojas sacrifice fly.

Ryan Yarbrough made quick work of San Francisco in the bottom half of the frame to shut the door in a 14-7 final.

It's as gritty as a team can look in a seven-run victory. In overcoming the early deficit and working their way through a close 10th inning, the Dodgers were able to avoid a series loss in the Bay. Rather than trying to scrape just a game out of the series, they'll now instead go for the series win on Sunday behind James Paxton.
