J-Kwon Joins Shaboozey For Surprise Performance At 2024 BET Awards

Shaboozey ignited the 2024 BET Awards with a killer performance on Sunday evening (June 30) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.

The Virginia native brought country to Hollywood, performing his hit single "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" in a makeshift saloon. Paying homage to the original "Tipsy" creator, Shaboozey closed out his performance with a surprise guest, St. Louis' very own J-Kwon , who performed a remix of his 2000s hit "Tipsy" alongside the country star.

Shaboozey, 29, recently caught up with Billy Costa backstage at the Kiss 108 Kiss Concert 2024. He shared the story of how he ended up on reigning iHeartRadio Music Awards Innovator Award recipient Beyoncé ’s COWBOY CARTER — along with Brittney Spencer , Tiera Kennedy , Tanner Adell and Reyna Roberts , to name a few — and more. Shaboozey released his album, Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going , last month. the 12-track album includes Shaboozey’s massively-popular single, “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” plus collaborations with Paul Cauthen , Noah Cyrus , BigXthaPlug and other highlights.

Shaboozey has embraced a year full of “a lot of firsts,” and he’s not slowing down any time soon. He announced on Monday (June 24) that he’s adding “my first ever headline tour to that list!” Shaboozey is set to perform new music and his album live for the first time on the first leg of his headlining tour this fall. “It is time to give credit where credit is due: Black musicians played a major role in developing the sound and style of country music,” BET shared earlier this month, paying tribute to Linda Martell , DeFord Bailey , Charley Pride , The Pointer Sisters and others who paved the way for modern artists like Shaboozey, Adell, The War and Treaty , Roberts, Willie Jones and many more. “From our instruments to our Southern gospel hymns, the genre began with us. Over the years, our contributions have been minimized, but that’s no longer the case. We’re acknowledging our history and the legends who shaped the genre and celebrating the renaissance of Black country music artists who are taking over the charts and the internet.”

The 2024 BET Awards, hosted by actress Taraji P. Henson , included an all-star list of performers taking the stage throughout the evening in addition to Shaboozey: Ms. Lauryn Hill and YG Marley , Ice Spice , Tyla , GloRilla , Latto , Muni Long , Sexyy Red , Victoria Monét , Will Smith and Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Usher . Tanner Adell took the BET Amplified stage before the show kicked off on Sunday night.
