The 2024 BET Awards audience was thrilled to see Shaboozey make his onstage debut at the annual ceremony on Sunday, June 30.

About an hour and a half into Sunday's ceremony, the 29-year-old genre-blending artist took the stage dressed in jeans, a white shirt and a black vest. He accessorized with a bedazzled belt and an orange handkerchief around his neck.

Shaboozey  jumped straight into "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" before rapper J-Kwon joined him on stage and incorporated a portion of his 2004 track, "Tipsy."

On X (formerly Twitter), viewers reacted to Shaboozey's performance, with one exclaiming , "Listennn #Shaboozey 's performance was AMAZING!!! #BETAwards ."

Others couldn't get over the country singer paying homage to J-Kwon. Someone else on X wrote , "That was soooo dope for Shaboozey to bring out J-Kwon!!"

Meanwhile, another viewer declared , "Shaboozey and J-Kwon give us the collab we needed at the #BETAwards ," and someone else echoed, "Shaboozey bringing out J Kwon to close his set was just 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼."

The BET Awards announced that Shaboozey would perform at this year’s event earlier this month. Additional artists included on this year’s list of performers included GloRilla , Ice Spice , Lauryn Hill , Megan Thee Stallion , Tyla and YG Marley , among others.

A news release announcing Shaboozey’s anticipated performance introduced the “Last of My Kind” singer as the Duckwrth collaborator who gained early attention for his musical talents with their song “Start a Riot,” which was featured on the soundtrack for 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse .

Shaboozey, born Collins Obinna Chibueze, has kept busy in the years since that initial success, releasing three albums of his own and popping up on two of the songs that Beyoncé released as part of her Cowboy Carter album earlier this year.
