The Los Angeles Lakers were hoping to sign former Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson this offseason in free agency, but they were unable to get the job done, with the member of the Splash Brothers opting to join the Dallas Mavericks instead.

Reports came out on Monday afternoon that Thompson was signing a three-year deal worth $50 million to play alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

After the initial news came out, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Lakers offered more money, and a longer contract, but Thompson turned down the deal. Woj said that the appeal of playing for a championship contender like the Mavericks is ultimately what led Thompson away from the Lakers.

Now, as a little bit more time has passed, Yahoo's Chris B. Haynes is reporting what the Lakers ultimately offered Thompson.

According to Haynes, the Lakers offered Thompson a deal that paid him $20 million per year, rather than the roughly $17 million that he got from the Mavericks. He also would have gotten an extra year on the contract, per Wojnarowski's reporting.

In the end, Thompson was happier to play alongside Doncic and Irving, rather than LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
