On Tuesday morning, ESPN analyst Brian Windhorst stirred controversy on ESPN's Get Up following Klay Thompson's surprising decision to sign with the Dallas Mavericks over his hometown team, the Los Angeles Lakers.

When discussing Thompson's decision, Windhorst took a jab at the Lakers, explaining they're nowhere close to where the Mavericks are in terms of building a championship team.

"I actually probably don't think it was that close for Klay," remarked Windhorst. "The Lakers are a big draw because they're his hometown team, but they're not comparable to where the Mavericks are in terms of competing for championships."

While Windhorst might not believe they are close to a championship, many believe the Lakers still have a shot at success, given their star power with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

The Mavericks finalized a significant sign-and-trade deal with the Golden State Warriors to secure the services of Klay Thompson, a five-time All-Star. In exchange, Dallas sent two second-round picks to Golden State.

Despite widespread expectations that Thompson might join the Lakers, fueled by rumors of LeBron James considering a pay cut to land Thompson, the sharpshooter opted for Dallas.

This move marks the end of an era for the Golden State Warriors' beloved trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, who collectively achieved unparalleled success.

Steph, Klay, and Draymond amassed six NBA Finals appearances, clinching four NBA championships over their illustrious tenure.

They boasted an impressive record of 518-203 (.718 win percentage), placing them sixth all-time in wins by a trio in NBA history.

Thompson's move to join Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in Dallas strengthens the Mavericks' roster following their recent NBA Finals loss to the Boston Celtics.
