Lakers Announce Major News On Bronny James' Summer Plans

The Los Angeles Lakers recently announced that rookie Bronny James will be participating in the California Classic and the Las Vegas Summer League, per Dave McMenamin on X. Head coach JJ Redick confirmed this decision in James' introductory press conference with the Lakers Tuesday.

Bronny, the son of Lakers forward LeBron James, was selected with the No. 55 overall pick to Los Angeles in the 2024 NBA draft. The 19-year-old rookie declared for the draft after his freshman season with the USC Trojans, where he averaged 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds.

While many fans were questioning Bronny's preparedness for the NBA, Redick has detailed his confidence in the rookie. He'll begin the 2024 season on the active roster despite NBA fans stirring rumors about a two-way contract with the Lakers' G-League affiliate, South Bay Lakers.

Many members of the Los Angeles staff have expressed their excitement about the 2024 rookie class. They believe the dominos fell right in their lap, securing sharpshooter Dalton Knecht with the 17th overall pick and Bronny at 55.

Both rookies will have a chance to ease into the NBA season, testing their skills against top prospects in the Summer League. The California Classic will begin on July 6th, with the Lakers scheduled to play the Sacramento Kings at 4:30 p.m. ET.
