According to the latest wastewater samples , we're seeing the typical summer increase of COVID cases in L.A. County.

The good news is it's not as high as it was in years past, but why are so many people testing negative when they know they are sick?

Well, it is entirely possible that some have just forgotten how to test for COVID properly .

Emily Valdez spoke with UCLA Epidemiology Professor Dr. Anne Rimoin , who said, "It's important to remember that we have this window between when you get infected and when you might actually test positive."

Dr. Rimoin said that if you don't feel well and test negative, remember that it can take a few days for you to test positive, "And so I would again use that same philosophy: test yourself again a few days later."

She also advises everyone to check the expiration date.

If your tests have expired, don't throw them away so quickly - you can visit the FDA website to find out if the expiration date has been extended .
