Fans Roasting The Lakers For Latest Bronny James Announcement

    By Kevin Borba,

LeBron James made it as clear as day that his goal was to play on the same team as his son Bronny.

Despite having a massively underwhelming season at USC, the former five-star recruit was taken with the No. 55 pick in this past week's NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. making that wish come true. While his father isn't under contract just yet as he was reportedly seeing what the Lakers would do in free agency, it is just a formality. The two are set to make NBA history when they eventually take the floor together next season, becoming the first father-son duo to play together in NBA history.

Following the Lakers' drafting of James, we have already learned a few things about him ahead of 2024. For starters, he will be wearing No. 9, he is set to play in the summer league which will be a great test to see his improvement, and both new head coach JJ Redick and general manager Rob Pelinka have each insisted they drafted him off of ability. On Tuesday, we also learned about his contract situation.

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, the younger James is expected to sign a multi-year guaranteed contract. While you may be asking what the big deal is, in most cases, second-round draft picks don't often get a guaranteed deal. If they do get one, it typically is after they showed out in summer league, not before they even take the floor for a team scrimmage. It is much more common for players drafted in the second to sign two-way deals, something that James' agent Rich Paul said they wouldn't do.

“Yes, that's absolutely true," Paul said to Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes. "Teams know that. I'm not doing that."

While fans were already upset at the fact that James was drafted, him getting a guaranteed contract right out of the gates has only added fuel to the fire as fans have been sounding off on social media.

"Okay now thats a bit crazy," wrote one fan regarding James' contract, while another compared his situation to last year's No. 55 pick overall and even called out LeBron James saying "The 55th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft was Isaiah Wong. The Pacers gave him a 1-year two-way contract of $559,782 with only 50% guaranteed. @KingJames don't complain about being accused of nepotism and then have stuff like this done for your son which is, by definition...nepotism".

The phrase nepotism was used quite frequently following the news as one fan essentially deemed him the face of nepotism, saying "The NBA's official Nepo baby??" while another acknowledged that while nepotism is rampant in the league they still disagree with it writing "Yes this is nepotism. Yes nepotism in the NBA happens all the time. Yes we can still 100% disagree with it and say this wrong."

James however is confident that his father has helped him prepare for this opportunity.

"Just having that work ethic and coming in and getting your work in and listening to your coaches and being coachable," James said. when speaking at the introductory press conference "Stuff like that he's driven into my head my whole life."
