LeBron James is signing for the max.

The Athletic's Shams Charania reported on Wednesday that James will sign a two-year, $104 million extension to remain with the Lakers.

Earlier this offseason, reports suggested James would take a pay cut if Los Angeles signed free agents of his choosing, including guards James Harden, Klay Thompson and center Jonas Valanciunas.

With the Lakers whiffing on all three, James did the next best thing and took the money he's rightfully owed.

James just finished his 21st year in the league and showed no signs of slowing down.

In 2023-24, James shot 54 percent from the field—his best shooting percentage since 2017-18 in Cleveland—while averaging 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, 7.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.

James was named an All-Star and All-NBA team member for the 20th consecutive season.

The Lakers finished last season 47-35 and lost to the Nuggets in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

This offseason, Los Angeles hired James' former podcasting buddy, JJ Redick, as its head coach and selected James' son, Bronny James, with the 55th overall pick of the 2024 NBA Draft.
