Municipal has landed in the Los Angeles municipal.

The performance wear brand, cofounded by actor Mark Wahlberg, businessman Harry Arnett, and producer Stephen Levinson roughly four years ago, opened a new store in West Hollywood at the end of last week.

“We got retail baby, right here on Melrose,” Wahlberg said in a video of the store posted to his Instagram three days ago. “Want to come and see us? You want to feel the drip on the strip, experience the drip. Right here baby.”

Located on buzzy Melrose Avenue, the new location spans 1,100 square feet and is stocked with “Sport Utility Gear,” or what the label describes as “the most comfortable, stylish, and versatile clothing.” The athleticwear is designed for all types of occasions, from stints in the office to sessions at the gym. The pieces range from T-shirts and sweatshirts to outerwear and sneakers, with prices ranging from $30 to $180.

The new L.A. outpost marks Municipal’s first permanent retail space, though it certainly won’t be the last. Arnett believes brick-and-mortar retail is essential to the label’s success: “It is very important for us to have a place where people can see the brand in its entirety,” the CCO told Women’s Wear Daily . “It’s about the experience to touch and feel and live within the context of the brand.”

The label is set to open a showroom in Carlsbad, California, this August. The 6,000-square-foot space will feature a coffee shop, a barber shop, and a community lounge for locals. It also plans to open 10 more shops over the next two to three years. The larger outposts will be in key locations such as Las Vegas, Phoenix, Atlanta, Boston, and New York.

Municipal’s footprint isn’t the only thing expanding. The label’s collection is getting bigger, too: It recently introduced womenswear and golf wear, and golf gear will be added to the mix later this year. Golf is a big part of the Municipal DNA: Wahlberg and Arnett met on a golf course in Carlsbad 15 years ago before deciding to start the label in 2019. The team is also working on a new line of grooming products that should arrive this fall and will roll out eyewear at the beginning of 2025. Exciting times ahead.
