After being selected in the second round at No. 55 overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024 NBA draft, Bronny James will likely spend the bulk of his rookie season in the G League, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported.

The oldest son of NBA legend LeBron James will turn 20 years old in October, and he didn't really get his feet wet at the collegiate level at USC after recovering and being medically cleared to play after suffering a cardiac arrest in summer 2023 .

As such, it shouldn't come as a surprise the Lakers organization would plan for Bronny to get reps at the G League level instead of riding the bench for the Lakers as an incoming rookie.

Wojnarowski noted Bronny will likely debut alongside his dad in the first week of the 2024-25 season, but will subsequently spend the majority of the season developing in the G League.

“What the Lakers’ expectations are is that he’ll largely be a G League player, like almost any 19-year-old player coming into the league drafted in the second round,” Wojnarowski says around the 2:20 mark of the video .

“I think what you’ll ultimately, probably see is Bronny James in the first week of the season on the court with his father in a very … I don’t want to call it ceremonial, but the eyes of the world will be on that. They’ll do that the first week of the season, but there’s no expectation Bronny James is going to be in the Lakers’ rotation.”

While it appears, according to Woj, the Lakers intend for Bronny to have a historic father/son moment to begin the season, the goal for his short- and long-term development with the franchise will be starting his professional career in the G League.

Bronny signed a four-year, $7.9 million contract with the Lakers on Wednesday, the same day LeBron agreed to an extension to remain with the Lakers on a two-year deal , according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin .

In 25 games at USC as a freshman, Bronny averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
