The NBA world is still trying to wrap its head around the fact that JJ Redick went from podcaster to head coach of one of the most prestigious franchises in sports.

Now, granted that Redick had a successful NBA career as a player and is viewed as one of the best analysts in basketball thanks to his time with ESPN, he still has a lot to learn as a coach—something that he is well aware of and took into account when trying to put a staff together.

The Lakers and Redick have been attempting to put veteran coaches around him on his staff, as they have already added both Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks, but there was one coach that they really whiffed on.

The coach in question is former Portland Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts. According to a report by Lakers insider Anthony F. Irwin, this offseason marked the third time that Stotts had turned down a chance to be on the Lakers staff. Both Frank Vogel and Darvin Ham made offers for him to be on their respective staff, but he declined.

The embarrassment factor doesn't just stop there, either. Stotts accepted a job offer to be on Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr's staff just a couple of days ago, thus showing that he wants to coach—just not for the Lakers.

It is also worth noting that former NBA Coach of the Year Dwane Casey declined to join Redick's staff but decided he didn't want to "uproot his family," according to a report .

Redick will certainly have a lot of growing pains, but his assistants do combine to have won around 1,200 games as an NBA coach, so he has the right people in his corner.
