I know it's become totally redundant to complain about all this heat at this point, but I'm gonna do it anyway: it's freakin' hot out there. I'm fortunate enough right now to ride out this heatwave in the comfort of a shaded building with AC, but not everyone is so lucky. But as bad as we humans have it, it must be so much worse for all the furry wildlife out there who can't easily shed down to bare skin like we can.

Fortunately, animals can be quite ingenious, and a few of them have developed their own ways of beating the heat. For example, this Los Angeles County bear decided to make use of his surroundings by stopping over in Burbank for a swim!

In the midst of California's heat wave, two bears found creative ways to cool off: one bear used a cupcake floatie to wade in a pool north of Los Angeles, while another bear in Burbank was discovered enjoying a hot tub before heading back to the mountains. #bears #heatwave #animals #poolday #losangeles #burbank

Hey, no one else was in the swimming pool - why should all that cool water go to waste? The video of this clever bear's backyard pool escapades made it all the way to @cbsmornings because, honestly, it's iconic. The bear didn't just swim in the pool; it got on that colorful cupcake pool floatie and went for a ride before hopping off, only to start playing with and hugging the beach balls floating in the water. This bear was having a full-on private pool day, and I'm loving it!

This is far from the first time a bear in Los Angeles has dipped into a homeowner's backyard pool for a swim. CBS also shared a video taken last year of a bear taking a dip in a Burbank homeowner's backyard Jacuzzi , giving responding police officers something to chuckle out before the bear wrapped up and peacefully scampered back off into the woods. Ah, bears- they're just like us!

There's a Bear in My Yard!

While it's cute watching bears go for a swim and enjoy the same kind of summertime fun that we do, situations like these are a little too close for comfort. Smart homeowners living in bear territory know to take measures to bear-proof their home and yard , such as not leaving garbage out at night and keeping pet food bowls indoors. At the end of the day, though, some bears are just curious, and if you've got a cool backyard pool on a hot day, they might just take that as an invitation for a swim!

Unfortunately, you don't want to encourage bears to hang around homes, even when there isn't food around. If bears become too comfortable hanging out on residential properties, they can become desensitized to humans, which in turn makes things more dangerous for bears and humans alike.

If you encounter a black bear in your backyard, BearWise.org recommends trying to scare the bear off from a safe distance by shouting, making loud noises, and banging pots and pans). Black bears are notoriously shy, and chances are they're much more afraid of you than you are of them. Once they're gone, remove any potential attractants, like food or garbage, if applicable. If it's feasible for you, installing a high backyard fence with a locking gate can also help discourage unwanted wildlife visitors. Sorry, bear - this pool's closed!
