Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James is facing the Sacramento Kings in his first NBA Summer League game, as the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft begins his professional career. This game between Los Angeles and Sacramento is part of the California Classic Summer League that also includes the Golden State Warriors.

With many NBA fans are tuned in to see how James looks in his first NBA action, the Lakers guard quickly had a lowlight, getting his ankles broken on the defensive end by Kings guard Adonis Arms. While James stayed on his feet, he stumbled quite a bit:

James signed a four-year contract with the Lakers that will put him on their standard roster, but it is reasonable to assume he will spend some time in the G League. Not expected to play extended rotation minutes for the Lakers next season, James could be a year or two away from consistently playing at the NBA level.

While there has been a lot of discussion about the multi-year deal James signed with the Lakers, it is not too unlike many other contracts signed for late second round picks.

Just getting his feet wet in the NBA, James will play extended Summer League minutes for the Lakers as they evaluate just how far along he is at this stage of his career. From here, the Lakers can decide how they want to approach the start of James' first NBA season alongside his father LeBron James who recently agreed to a new deal to remain in Los Angeles.
