Bronny James' First NBA Summer League Points Has The Internet Buzzing

Every NBA Summer League has at least one player that will attract enough fans to pack the gyms.

In years past, it has been names like Lonzo Ball, Zion Williamson, and Victor Wembanyama who were the headliners, but in this year's edition, there isn't anyone who comes even remotely close to their star power. Instead, this year's biggest attraction was the No. 55 pick overall, Bronny James.

The oldest son of LeBron James was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers after a subpar season at USC that saw him average less than five points. While James being drafted was quite controversial due to his lackluster numbers, it will go on to be a historic draft pick as he and his father will become the first father-son duo to ever take the floor as teammates in NBA history.

While James does have a guaranteed contract with the Lakers, he has a lot to work on, which is where the summer league comes into play. On Saturday, he and the Lakers summer league squad took the floor for the first time against the Sacramento Kings. While he was struggling to get his shot to fall early, he did eventually get on the board after getting downhill on a handoff for what were his first NBA Summer League points.

In addition to notching his first couple of points, James also showcased his defense, which, aside from his shooting, is his other calling card. James was able to intercept a pass and take it coast-to-coast before dishing it off for a nice assist.

While he did have these couple of positive moments, James was also on the receiving end of a crossover with a possible push-off that sent him stumbling, which has also been making its rounds on the internet. Regardless, James is getting his sea legs under him and has shown a couple of flashes along the way.
