Scooping up Bronny James in the second round was not the only highlight for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2024 NBA Draft. Basketball-wise, selecting Tennessee star Dalton Knecht as the No. 17 overall pick represents an even more substantial development for the Lakers.

For his part, there's no denying that LeBron James is over the moon about having the opportunity to play alongside his eldest son. However, the NBA's all-time leading scorer is delighted by Knecht falling into LA's lap.

"Dalton, besides Bronny, was my favorite player in college basketball. … I did not think he would fall to 17 at all," LeBron said. "I’m glad he did."

Some mock drafts had Knecht listed as a top-10 prospect in the draft, which is why even LeBron himself was left in a state of shock when the 6-foot-6 wing was still available when it was LA's turn to make its pick in the first round.

You can be sure that LeBron James and the Lakers will happily take advantage of this completely unexpected development this coming season.

Big things are expected from Dalton Knecht in his debut campaign for LA.
