The Los Angeles Lakers have not had a quiet offseason, but they have been one of the most inactive NBA teams in free agency.

LeBron James recently signed a two-year extension with the Lakers. He took a small pay cut with the hope that Rob Pelinka and the Lakers would be able to bring in a star to help make another run at an NBA Championship.

Big names such as Klay Thompson and DeMar DeRozan were on Los Angeles' radar. But Thompson signed with the Dallas Mavericks, and DeRozan went to the Sacramento Kings, leaving the Lakers empty-handed.

On Sunday, LeBron joined ESPN's Dave McMenamin to finally discuss missing out on these NBA stars.

"Rich Paul told me that leading up to you signing that deal that you'd be willing to take a pay cut to sign an impact player. But here we sit, Klay Thompson's with the Dallas Mavericks. DeMar DeRozan's with the Sacramento Kings. What do you think happens?" McMenamin asked LeBron.

"It takes two to tango. At the end of the day, I think our front office, our coaching staff, they're trying to do the job they want to do or trying to get guys to come and it just didn't happen. That's okay. It's part of business," James answered .

Despite the free agency inactivity, the Lakers have made some bold moves this offseason. They signed JJ Redick to become their next head coach. Redick previously worked as an NBA commentator with ESPN and has no coaching experience.

The Lakers also drafted LeBron's son, Bronny James, with the No. 55 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Although it may not be impactful on the court, this move by Los Angeles has already made its mark on NBA history, with LeBron and Bronny being the first father-son duo to play in the league at the same time, let alone the same team.
