LeBron James recently responded back to critics about his son Bronny who was recently drafted to the Los Angeles Lakers.

During an interview with ESPN, LeBron discussed the historic achievement of potentially being the first father-son duo to play on the same team in the league. He also mentioned how his son, Bronny, is facing similar criticisms to those he faced at the beginning of his NBA career. “I don’t know if people really understand Bronny,” he shared. “He doesn’t care. I actually cared a little bit when I came in, I wanted people to like me, and some of the things that people were saying about me kind of bothered me early on in my career. … Bronny, he doesn’t give a f**k.”

The attention surrounding Bronny’s signing with the Lakers is significant, not only due to the historic father-son team aspect but also because of allegations of nepotism. “He does not care about nobody. He doesn’t even listen to that stuff,” LeBron continued. “He’s like the coolest. He’s like the complete opposite of his dad. His dad will say something. Bronny does not care. … Everything that’s being said about him, he really does not care.”

Bronny is set to make his Lakers debut in the upcoming season. In a 2023 interview, LeBron expressed his desire to play alongside his eldest son for at least one season.  “I need to be on the floor with my boy, I got to be on the floor with Bronny,” he said to ESPN.

In another part of the interview, LeBron discussed his choice to sign a two-year contract with the Lakers for $3 million less than the maximum amount.

“We are in a relationship, and anybody knows relationships, it’s all about committing,” he explained of his decision to stick with the Lakers. “It’s also about doing things to help both sides. So, we’ve been in a working relationship going on seven years … so that’s what it’s about.”
