As JJ Redick transitions to being the new head coach of one of the NBA’s most famed franchises, the Los Angeles Lakers , the former sharpshooter-turned-podcaster and media personality announced that he would no longer be putting out any content for his popular podcast “The Old Man and the Three” nor would he be participating in any endeavors of the production company he helped establish—342 Productions.

    Quick transition

A few months ago, Redick could be seen on screens on “OM3” and on the podcast he hosted with Lakers great LeBron James called “Mind the Game.” He could also be seen on ESPN, where he was part of the core broadcast team for NBA games. However, all that ended in June when the Lakers hired the 40-year-old to be the team’s new head coach following the dismissal of coach Darvin Ham.

On Monday, Redick uploaded a video on his channel, thanking everyone who supported him in his media career over the last three years.

“I wanted to give a quick thank you to every single person who has listened to one of our podcasts, watched a video, subscribed, or followed us on social media over the last four years. Anyone who has bought a hat or given us any support, it has meant the world to us,” JJ stated .

He reiterated that 342 would continue operating without his involvement. After all, the Lakers coaching gig is one of the most coveted positions in sports, and he’s not passing up on the opportunity.

“Obviously, we're in a bit of a transition here at 342. I will be moving on to coach the Los Angeles Lakers. 342 is alive and well and will continue to operate. However, I will have no involvement as my entire focus is on coaching the Los Angeles Lakers and making them the best possible team they can be,” the 15-year veteran continued.

Grateful for everyone who participated in his journey

JJ's journey from Cookeville, Tennessee, to the Lakers is a testament to his hard work and dedication. He has come a long way, playing high school basketball in Virginia, starring for coach Mike Krzyzewski at Duke, and then embarking on his pro career. In his latest post, Redick sought to thank everyone who has been a part of his journey.

“I do want to say one thing real quick. I have been very fortunate in my life, and I talked about this at the press conference when I was introduced as the Lakers coach. I've gotten to do some amazing things—high school basketball, playing at Duke, my NBA career, and everything I've done over the last three years in media. Whenever I reflect, I always come back to the people I got to do it with,” JJ shared.

As JJ embarks on the next chapter of his career, the Lakers have shown their confidence in him. Despite his lack of coaching experience at any level, the franchise has put its faith in the 40-year-old. It's a new era for the Lakers, and fans can look forward to seeing whether JJ can guide the team to championship status.
