"The security wouldn't let me go back" - Austin Reaves shares the craziest hotel room story with the Lakers

Life in the NBA involves a lot of basketball and nights in hotels. Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves has been in the league long enough to collect many interesting stories.

Reaves' crazy hotel experience with the Lakers

According to the 6-foot-5 guard, the craziest among the bunch was during their stay in Portland as they were about to leave for the game. The fire alarm suddenly went off, and AR got down and walked out with the other hotel guests.

"Everybody else in the building was going out, too," Reaves narrated to Hoops Hype. "We went out the front, and our bus was leaving from the back from where our meal room was at the time. I think they finally turned the alarm off, but the security for the hotel wouldn't let me go back there. It's like how I was talking about before how I fit in with the regular crowd."

It doesn't seem like a wild story at face value. However, given that Reaves is a teammate of LeBron James — one of the most popular celebrities in the world — one could assume that a handful would know everyone in LBJ's circle of people.

But this wasn't the case for the Arkansas native who looks like your ordinary guy. Yes, he's tall, but he isn't as intimidating as most professional ballers. But behind Austin's unassuming looks is a lethal competitor. He might look like an IT professional, but he's one of the best athletes in the world.

    McCants' controversial take

Reaves' looks have not only led to interesting experiences but also caused controversy. When AR15 signed a massive four-year, $56 million contract in 2023, former NBA player Rashad McCants questioned his skillset .

"I ain't apologizing. I was cussing y'all out last night," McCants said . "'What? Stop it! Austin (Reaves) what? $50 million?' At four (years) for $25 (million), he's stealing. I'm like Austin Reaves…NAH! Franciso Garcia got that sh*t. Y'all giving ($50 million) to him 'cause one he's white and one he playing with the (Los Angeles) Lakers and they trash. So it's like, if the Lakers ain't trash, he ain't playin'."

Is McCants jealous because he played just four years in the NBA despite being the 14th pick of the 2005 NBA Draft? Or does his criticism of Reaves' market value have some truth in it? Whatever the case, Austin is an intriguing talent that fans will continue looking out for.
