Expressions usually ring true to some degree, I mean they have to stem from somewhere right? Well, I’m sure you have probably heard the popular expression “They just don’t make them like they used to” a time or two. Typically referring to cars, popular food items like the Little Debbie snacks from the 20s, and farm equipment. But TBH one of the biggest things that this old saying refers to in our books in homes.

Now don’t get us wrong… new homes are great and new construction is promising for wiring safety , fresh appliances, and no need for remodels or upgrades. But everything in new homes are typically made with builder-grade level materials, meaning the cheapest, quickest, and often most boring elements go into building the structure of new day homes that simply all just look alike.

Old homes each look so different from one another, each telling their own stories, with bones that were constructed by hand, often with so much detail added into each element.

Check out what we mean with this virtual tour of a true mid-century time capsule home that's up for sale in LA.

    What is Mid-Century Modern?

Mid-century homes in the modern world are highly sought after by enthusiasts of the 60s era. Mid-century homes are primarily characterized by very large and spacious open floor plans with shorter ceiling heights, some with angle-pitched ceilings, and tons of natural unfiltered sunlight coming in from floor-to-ceiling glass.

Design finishes and textures include natural materials like plasterer, clay, stones, brick, and light wood, offering cool and warm tones at the same time.
