A suspect in a possibly stolen car led Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies on a wild pursuit from East Los Angeles to the Pico-Union area, striking multiple vehicles along the way, including several sheriff's patrol units, and was shot by deputies as the chase came to an end.

The roughly hour-long chase came to an end around 2:45 p.m. in the area of Vermont Avenue and Venice Boulevard. Sheriff's deputies on the scene reported toward the end of the pursuit that the suspect was boxed in by traffic, then put his car in reverse and rammed into another sheriff's vehicle.

Ultimately, the suspect rolled onto a sidewalk and into a pole, where he was quickly pinned in place by pursuing deputies. The suspect then appeared to spin the car's wheels, prompting deputies to open fire, shattering the rear window.

After the shooting, the suspect stopped moving, and there appeared to be blood on the front windshield.

With no movement visible in the car, deputies eventually moved in and pulled the suspect from the vehicle, then summoned paramedics, who loaded the suspect into an ambulance in unknown condition.

There were no reports of any injuries to deputies.

There was no immediate information on exactly where the pursuit began. Reports from the scene indicated the suspect may have been connected to a carjacking that occurred earlier in the day.
