Nicholas Cage's son Weston arrested in Los Angeles after alleged attack on mother Christina Fulton

Weston Cage, son of Hollywood star Nicholas Cage , was arrested in Los Angeles after allegedly attacking his mother while having a "mental health crisis."

The arrest comes weeks after his mother, Christina Fulton, was pictured with several bruises . Weston was released on $150,000 bail at around 10am local time.

Weston's family were reportedly "shocked" by the arrest but "knew this was going to happen."

It's believed that Nicholas bailed his son out of jail.

"The family knew this was going to happen but needless to say, it is a very big shock," a source told The US Sun. The source also claimed that Weston's arrest was linked to an alleged assault on Christina back in April.

Christina released a statement online at the time detailing what happened. "Weston and I had no argument prior to the incident," she wrote.

"On Sunday April 28, I was reached out to by several of Weston's best friends for assistance because they were experiencing Weston in a mental-health crisis," she continued, "Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience."

Christine added that she has "always supported helping my son with mental health struggles."

She added: "I am doing all I can to get him the continued support he needs."

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to the US Sun: "I can confirm that Weston Coppola Cage was arrested today for assault with a deadly weapon."

Weston Coppola Cage, son of actor Nicolas Cage, has had previous run-ins with the law. In 2017, he was involved in a DUI and hit-and-run incident.

At the age of 26, he collided with various street fixtures and vehicles before crashing into a tree, as reported by authorities.

He is also reported to have left the scene of another accident located approximately a mile away. Following his hospital visit, Weston faced charges for Driving Under the Influence and was held on a $30,000 bail.

In addition, Weston faced domestic violence charges in 2011 involving his then-wife Nikki Williams. Nicolas Cage and Christina Fulton began their relationship in 1988, with Weston being born two years later.

Weston has worked alongside his father Nicolas in the film Lord of War as a helicopter mechanic. His career also includes involvement with two black metal bands, showcasing his musical talent.
