Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to reports of a rubbish fire shortly after 2 a.m. in the 4400 block of North Crystal Springs Drive.

Once on scene, firefighters reported a covered storage and maintenance area fully engulfed in fire with 30-foot high flame lengths extending into nearby trees, according to the LAFD.

The fire was burning just behind the main station. LAFD crews requested additional personnel to respond due to an issue with water supply at the location. A “water shuttle” was established to help crews douse the blaze.

The fire was extinguished in just over an hour, according to the LAFD. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

    Per the the railroad’s website:

“Our miniature railroads carry nearly 500,000 passengers each year. Weather permitting, we operate 364 days a year, closing on Christmas Day only.”

“The Griffith Park & Southern Railroad first opened for business in 1948. It has operated continuously, except for a few years in the 1950s, ever since.”
