The Los Angeles Dodgers are trending in the wrong direction heading into the All-Star Break. After going 3-5 and losing back-to-back games to the Philadelphia Phillies, the Dodgers dropped one spot in Newsweek’s MLB Power Rankings on Thursday.

The Dodgers at 55-38 are No. 4 this week behind the Phillies, the Cleveland Guardians, and the Baltimore Orioles.

With all the injuries stockpiling, it’s no surprise the Dodgers slipped. Their offense has been inconsistent and their pitching has been shaky. If it weren’t for Gavin Stone, who knows where Los Angeles would be?

Stone and the Dodgers had the opportunity to steal a game from the best team in baseball on Wednesday night. Instead, a couple of errors doomed the Dodgers in a 4-3 loss. Stone, however, was solid through 4.2 innings.

“This was a frustrating one,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters after the game . “You’ve got to give credit to those guys for putting the ball in play and taking advantage of opportunities. We had some opportunities that we couldn’t capitalize on. Ultimately, we came up short.”

The Dodgers had multiple innings with runners in scoring position. They had runners on the corners with one out in the seventh and Shohei Ohtani at the plate. He struck out on four pitches. Teoscar Hernandez followed him up with a fly out to right.

“I see the fight,” Roberts said . “But unfortunately, we needed that hit. There were some opportunities that we had guys in scoring position and we just didn’t capitalize.”

The Dodgers’ four-game losing streak ended Friday with a win in Detroit .
