Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Dustin May won't pitch at all this season after having surgery this week to fix an esophageal tear, according to a report on Saturday.

May, 26, had been rehabbing from surgery in 2023 to repair a torn flexor tendon in his pitching arm and had not appeared in a game this season.

The latest medical issue arose as May was nearing a rehabilitation assignment in the minors, but he needed care for pain in his throat and stomach, ESPN reported Saturday, citing sources.

The Dodgers have a lengthy list of injured starting pitchers, and also demoted Bobby Miller to the minors this week due to continued ineffectiveness.

In five big-league seasons, May is 12-9 with a 3.10 ERA in 46 games (34 starts). He has 174 strikeouts and 57 walks in 191 2/3 innings.
