Dodgers’ Justin Wrobleski Addresses Struggles In First Two Starts of Career

In his second career start, Justin Wrobleski gave up back-to-back home runs to the Detroit Tigers in the fifth inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers went on to lose 11-9 in extra innings. The Dodgers blew a five-run lead in the ninth inning , giving the Tigers one of the most improbable wins of the season.

Wrobleski was naturally unhappy with how the game went after giving up four runs, three earned, five hits, and two walks in five innings.

“Obviously, I’m not quite happy with the results. It sucks to go out there and give up four runs,” Wrobleski said, via SportsNet LA . “I think I’m better than how I’ve pitched the past two starts and obviously it’s frustrating but looking back on it, see what we can do and see what kind of things I can fix.”

Wrobleski called his slider the pitch he’s upset with after the game since he gave up multiple home runs after getting off to a good start with the pitch.

“I definitely had a feel for the slider early,” Wrobleski said. “Had some good strikeouts on it, a lot of swing and miss. I’m happy with it, it’s just a matter of getting it down when I need to get it down and understanding where we’re at in the game and where runners are.”

Wrobleski was far from the only Dodgers pitcher who struggled against the Tigers in Saturday’s loss. Relievers Ricky Vanasco, Evan Phillips , and Yohan Ramirez each allowed at least one earned run in either the ninth inning or extra innings, giving the Tigers the win. Vanasco allowed three earned runs in his brief appearance and was optioned to Triple-A the next day .

Through two career MLB starts so far, Wrobleski has given up ten hits, eight runs, seven earned runs, and four home runs through ten innings. He has a 6.30 ERA and eight strikeouts.
