The LAFD received a report of a large brush fire shortly before 2:30 a.m. that was observed from the nearby 134 Freeway in the area of Victory Boulevard.

Upon arrival into the park, firefighters found flames running uphill in heavy brush on the 5600 block of West Zoo Drive. Initially estimated at 1/4 acre, the brush fire spread to two acres before it was contained, according to the LAFD.

The LAFD requested the assistance of LAFD Air Ops and additional ground crews to combat the flames.

LAFD Air Ops made several water drops to stop the fire from spreading. Firefighters can also be seen in KNN video, hiking up the steep hillside terrain to fight the flames.

At 3:44 a.m., the LAFD reported that forward progress had been stopped at approximately two acres, and crews would continue to work on steep terrain to monitor hot spots.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
