Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard is no longer a member of Team USA, but the reason for his withdrawal is more complicated than expected.

It was first believed that Leonard withdrew due to injury concerns for himself and the Clippers' organization. Now, it's reported by ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk that Clippers owner Lawrence Frank is rather upset with Team USA's decision.

"Lawrence Frank says Clippers were disappointed in USA Basketball’s decision to pivot from Kawhi Leonard. Frank said Leonard looked good in the first few practices and there was no setback," Youngmisuk's post stated. "Frank says he understands USA has to do what it feels best but he felt Kawhi could play."

The reported quote leaves the public at a loss because it seems the choice came from the front office. Among the possibilities is the USA staff urged LA's organization to request a removal to avoid conflict, but this simply stems from theory, not fact. Leonard was later replaced by the third Boston Celtics player on the roster, lockdown guard Derrick White.
