LA City Councilman Hires Security To Address Concerns In Wilmington Area

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A private security company will begin operating Monday in Wilmington following an increase in public safety concerns among property owners along Avalon Boulevard between Opp and Water streets.

L.A. City Councilman Tim McOsker, who represents the 15th District, which includes Wilmington, announced the city has contracted with Peak Security using funds from his office and AB 1290 -- state money specific for redevelopment and community services. Peak Security will provide services from 8 a.m. to midnight Monday and Tuesday, and 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

"Safety and security along Avalon Boulevard is crucial to the well- being and prosperity of our community," McOsker said in a statement. "By partnering with Peak Security, we are taking the steps to ensure residents, businesses and visitors feel safe and protected in this important corridor in the Wilmington community."

Peak Security will maintain a presence within the Avalon Merchant Business Improvement District. According to the councilman's office, this is not the first time this particular area has required additional security services.

Elizabeth Machuca, owner of Synesthesia Boutique, located along Avalon Boulevard, said she was thrilled about Peak Security's return.

"Knowing we can collaborate with them to address any potential issues is reassuring. Safety is paramount for our customers, visitors and employees alike, and having Peak Security back ensures everyone feels protected," Machuca said in a statement. "I'm grateful for this and look forward to a safer and more prosperous community."

Ricardo Sanchez, owner of Maya Mexican Restaurant, also located along the boulevard, shared Machuca's sentiments. He added that this stretch of street often experiences "dangerous and unhealthy" activity, which impacts business.

"Having security along Avalon Boulevard has, in the past, helped address issues that are not severe enough for the Los Angeles Police Department but are burdensome for business owners to endure," Jackie Correa, owner of LA Waterfront Pizza, said in a statement. "I'm grateful to have Peak Security back to address these minor disturbances and nuisance activities that detract from the safety and comfort of our local small businesses."
