    Playboy mansion shows off huge renovation after Hollywood's most glamorous mansion fell into disarray

    The Playboy mansion has been getting a makeover.

    The iconic grotto and mansion itself are going through some major updates. Playboy mogul, Hugh Hefner , thew some of the best and most iconic parties in Los Angeles back in the day. The construction process has taken over four years to complete — and it's still going. The property was even purchased about seven years ago by entrepreneur Daren Metropoulos, who lives next door to the estate.

    New pictures of the property surfaced showing the mansion windows covered but bright green grass was laid all around the backyard and the pool filled with water.

    Daren purchased the property when it went on sale and wanted to combine it with his property nextdoor. He told the Daily Mail in 2023: "Hugh Hefner was a visionary in business, a giant in media and an iconic figure of pop culture whose legacy will leave a lasting impact."

    His purchase came in 2016, before Hugh's death in 2017. The Playboy owner was allowed to live in the home until he died. Daren then decided that it was time to give the iconic mansion a makeover.

    Architect Richard Landry was tasked with completely redoing the home with a $10million renovation. He plans to keep certain aspects while giving it a more modern look. The build was described as a "subterranean addition to an existing three-story, single family dwelling," by documents filed to the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.

    The staff house was partially demolished to build a 4,400 sq. ft. addition which included a gym and a garage. The main mansion has 18,000 sq. ft. in the residential floor but getting a makeover. The kitchen, family room, bathrooms and a powder room are also getting a do-over. The permits, obtained by the Daily Mail, said they are planning to have more natural light coming through with new skylights.

    Hugh bought the Holmby Hills home after being inspired by his model ex-partner Barbi Benton. In 1974, he resided there for more than four decades with many "girlfriends" that he referred to as "bunnies." Behind closed doors, past girlfriends of Hugh recalled participating in seedy orgies and dark drug binges.
