Frightening simulation reveals Los Angeles destruction in major nuclear attack

Vast swathes of Los Angeles would be obliterated if a nuclear bomb were to explode within the city, as shown by this chilling map from nuclearsecrecy.com. Nuclear historian Alex Wellerstein from the Stevens Institute of Technology contributed to the creation of the map , which illustrates the catastrophic effects of nuclear detonations in major cities worldwide.

In the event that a bomb with a yield equivalent to the "Castle Bravo", the most powerful nuclear device ever detonated by the US, were to go off in Los Angeles , the devastation would be immense. The bomb had a yield of 15,000 kilotons.

Wellerstein's expert simulations suggest that an appalling 1,640,160 individuals could lose their lives in such a disaster. Additionally, the model forecasts that another 2,279,010 people would suffer injuries, and the radioactive fallout could reach as far as Las Vegas and Utah. The Environmental Protection Agency defines nuclear fallout as a mix of materials produced "immediately following an aboveground nuclear explosion, debris, and soil can mix with radionuclides."

They explain that this blend is propelled into the atmosphere and subsequently descends back to Earth, known as fallout, typically comprising hundreds of different radionuclides.

The damage in the immediate vicinity of the bomb would be catastrophic, as illustrated by this map . The green ring on the map indicates that 15 percent of survivors, due to the severity of the radiation, would eventually succumb to cancer.

The fireball radius is represented by the inner yellow ring. Everything within this area would be instantly vaporized. The red ring signifies severe blast damage, which would demolish nearly all structures and result in a fatality rate close to 100 percent.

Fortunately, these scenarios are purely hypothetical, and the likelihood of such weapons being deployed remains slim.
